3rd today

Sometimes the world seems so cynical doesn't it? So many marriages fail, relationships fall apart, and people are left stranded on emotional islands. Often times, after upset after upset, we end up jaded and cynical, thinking that your dream of true love could never be reality. However, love does in fact happen, but sometimes we have to be ready to have it in our lives. Today I am including a story about my sister and her now husband.

My sister is 33. At 15 she met a man named Chris. Chris was a friend of our fathers, and became close friends with my sister. They had a lot of feelings for each other, but he was about 10 years her senior. It just was not a good idea to embark on a relationship at that time. Chris decided to go off to Europe for a while, and they coresponded on and off over the next 2 years or so, but lost track of each other after that.

At 18 she ran off to Vegas in an attempt to live a wild life. She ended up married to her high school sweetheart and living in California. That unhappy union didn't last very long when he decided that the rent money was better spent as a down payment on a new sports car. So at 19 she was already divorced.

She moved around, trying to figure out what she should be doing with her life and ended up in school and dating this guy named brian. a few months before graduation, she found she was pregnant with my neice Em. Suddenly she was back in Vegas and gave birth to Em. Em was supposed to be put up for adoption as brian did not want her. However, it was something she knew she could not do. She knew she wanted to keep Em. So she did, and they tried to make it work. A couple of months later, he left her for an 18 year old stripper. We haven't heard from him since....that was 10 years ago.

During the years she has gone through heart break after heart break. Cheaters, liars, users, thiefs, you name it!! As a last ditch attempt to get ahold of her life and deal with her depression, she went back to live with our mother in Texas. She enrolled Em in school and went looking for a job. She liked the internet, like most of us, and spent a good deal of free time playing games and talking to friends. One evening she bumped into an old friend online...Chris. The same Chris she knew when she was 15 years old. many years had passed and he hadn't married. Never really even dated. He focused on his career and played with computers. They started talking on phone and on-line all night and all day as they fell in love. Oddly, he still had a picture of her...from those years of corespondence when she was a teenager. Within 2 months she and Em moved to his house in Oklahoma and they were married.

This January is their second wedding anniversary. He has become the most amazing father to Em, and their family is now complete. They are still so madly in love, her life has changed, and they both have their fairy tale ending.

If you think you are languishing in the life of a single person, be patient and keep your eyes open. Amazing things happen all the time.
